Chichen Itza, Valladolid, and the World's Most Famous Cave Cenote.

Why Dos Ojos Makes This the Most Distinctive Chichen Itza Day Tour Available

Most Chichen Itza tours pair the ruins with a standard open-air cenote. This private tour does something more unusual — it combines the Yucatán’s greatest archaeological site with the town of Valladolid and Cenote Dos Ojos, which translates directly as Two Eyes Cenote. Dos Ojos is part of the Sac Actun system — one of the longest underwater cave networks ever mapped. Two connected sinkholes are joined by a 400-meter passage of crystal-clear water, stalactites, and cave fish. Snorkeling here means swimming through an active cavern system — an experience genuinely unlike any open-air cenote. Your certified guide covers the full day: the astronomy and history of Chichen Itza, the colonial heritage of Valladolid, and the geology of what makes Dos Ojos one of the most extraordinary natural sites in the Americas.

El Castillo, the Great Ball Court, the Temple of Warriors — your guide provides the deep cultural and astronomical context behind one of the world's most important ancient sites.

Why Choose AB Transfers for This Tour

Dos Ojos requires the right timing — arrive too late and the cave fills with visitors. We plan accordingly, and our guides know the cenote well.

Dos Ojos Over Standard Cenotes

Most tours use Ik Kil or Yokdzonot — beautiful, but open-air. Dos Ojos is a cave cenote, which means snorkeling through underground passages with stalactites. A genuinely different experience.

Early Access to Chichen Itza

We depart early specifically to beat the large group buses. Chichen Itza at 8am is a completely different experience from Chichen Itza at noon.

What is included in the private tour to Chichen Itza, Valladolid and Two Eyes Cenote?

The tour includes private air-conditioned transport, a certified bilingual guide for the full day, entrance fees to Chichen Itza and Dos Ojos cenote, snorkel gear and life vest for the cenote, lunch at a local Valladolid restaurant, and cold water throughout the journey. The full tour runs approximately 10 to 11 hours.

What is Dos Ojos (Two Eyes Cenote) and why is it special?

Cenote Dos Ojos — Spanish for Two Eyes — is a pair of connected sinkholes linked by a 400-meter underwater passage, forming part of the Sac Actun system — one of the longest underwater cave networks ever mapped. The water is exceptionally clear, the cave formations include active stalactites and stalagmites, and snorkelers can swim through the connecting passage between the two openings. It's a genuinely different experience from an open-air cenote, and widely considered one of the best snorkeling cenotes in Mexico.

Is Dos Ojos suitable for non-swimmers or beginners?

Basic comfort in water is recommended, but you don't need to be a strong swimmer. Life vests are provided and the cave snorkel is guided — your guide will stay with the group throughout. The water in Dos Ojos is calm with no current. That said, the cave environment is darker than open-air cenotes, which some people find claustrophobic. If you have concerns, let us know when booking and your guide can advise on which sections of the cenote are most comfortable for your group.

How is Two Eyes Cenote different from Ik Kil or Yokdzonot?

Ik Kil and Yokdzonot are open-air cenotes — vertical sinkholes open to the sky, which are beautiful but relatively simple swimming spots. Dos Ojos is a cave cenote — the entry points are open to the sky but the system extends horizontally into underground cavern passages. Snorkeling at Dos Ojos means swimming through those passages, which have cave formations, bats in the Bat Cave section, and a completely different atmosphere from any open-air cenote. It's considered more of an adventure experience.

How long is the drive from Cancun and Tulum to Chichen Itza?

Chichen Itza is approximately 2.5 hours from Cancun and 2 hours from Tulum by private vehicle. Dos Ojos cenote is located north of Tulum, roughly 30 minutes from Tulum town. Because this tour begins with Chichen Itza and ends near Tulum, the logistics work efficiently for guests starting from anywhere along the Cancun–Tulum corridor — and we plan the route accordingly.

What should I bring for this tour?

Comfortable walking shoes for Chichen Itza, a hat and biodegradable sunscreen (standard sunscreen is not permitted in cenotes), a swimsuit and towel, a small amount of cash for souvenirs at Chichen Itza, and any personal medication. We provide water, snacks, snorkel gear, and life vests. Lunch in Valladolid is sit-down — vegetarian and dietary options are available if you notify us in advance.
